Research and development are one of the core competences of our group of companies. Our laboratories conduct research in numerous different fields such as baking technology, rheology, flour analysis, cereal analysis and applications consultancy. We have developed a complete portfolio of flour improvers, an internationally acceptable solution for replacing bromate in the baking process, tailor-made enzyme complexes, stabilizing systems for delicatessen specialities and dairy products, chocolate pieces for ice cream and pastry goods, cold-sprayed fat powders, naturally refined lecithins produced by pressing soybeans and important food supplements. This wide range of products combined with a high degree of specialization has put us among the world’s leading suppliers in our chosen market segments.
We attach great importance to dialogue with our customers in a spirit of partnership. We feel it is essential for research and development to go hand in hand with dialogue between the group and its customers in a spirit of partnership. This close contact enables us to find quick and efficient solutions for clearly defined frames of reference. But our work is by no means finished when that is done: we accompany the use of our products with our know-how, get to know the demands of other applications and enhance our solutions all the time.
Research under one roof – at our Stern-Technology Center. The extensive applications research of the individual companies is concentrated under one roof at our Stern-Technology Center in Ahrensburg, near Hamburg. Our laboratories, fitted with the latest technical equipment, are situated on an area of more than 2,000 m². Each of the 12 specialist firms supplying the different industries has access to the accumulated knowledge of the whole group through the “Know-How Connection”. The possibilities for developing customized solutions and providing advice on applications are highly diverse; they cover such fields as bread and pastry goods, dairy products, ice cream, deli foods, meat, sweets, beverages, flavourings, vitamin and mineral premixes, muesli and food supplements. The architecturally distinctive Stern-Technology Center – with modern laboratories and the latest equipment for applications research – offers an ideal environment for innovation. Short routes in every sense make it easy to unite scientific findings with applications technology and harmonize production, marketing and sales.
